Crystal Nickell and the Royal Palms of Saint Lucie raise money for agencies who help women and children.

Among the people the agencies have helped–  a family who lost their home due to a fire.

Crystal said, “They lost everything, so we actually did a fundraiser for them and raised a couple of thousand dollars for them as well.”

Crystal is a volunteer, but is more than willing to spend several hours a week organizing fundraisers.

“Total over the last ten years we have raised close to a quarter of a million dollars and this year we donated 25 thousand dollars to twelve different organizations.

Money that goes to good use.

“Pace Center for girls they were a five thousand dollar recipient and then we tiered down from there. Treasure Coast Food Bank 35 hundred dollar recipient.”

Now the ladies are collecting prom dresses to give away to teens. Whether it’s supplies or money, Crystal says the payoff is helping someone else smile.

“When you deliver a check to someone and they are just so dumbfounded by it, and look at you that they can’t believe you are doing this for me, this is really wonderful, it’s a great, great feeling.”

The Purpose

“Viva Las Vegas,” the party for many causes, is hosted by the Royal Palms, an organization of women committed to serving the community. Founded in 2002 by a group of passionate women who wanted to make a difference in people’s lives, all funds raised are distributed to women and children’s charities within St. Lucie County. Each year, the Royal Palms donate to various organizations. Some of the past recipients include PACE Center for Girls, Wavecrest Teen Shelter, Alzheimer’s Community Care and many more.

The People

Although the nearly 100 members of the Royal Palms all help in some way or another at most events, including this signature event, the fund development committee, chaired by Sarah Flesche, shoulders most of the actual party-planning work here. The committee includes Amy Thofner, Brittany Hester, Wendy Smith, Calise Munne, English Muncy, Jamie Spooner, Jill Landgrebe, Justine Theisen, Kaitlyn Granger, Kim Melzer, Marene Hopkins, Missy Lyshon, Sarah Egan, Stacy Schwerer and Susan Granger. Sponsors are Alonzo Law Offices, P.A., Louden Bonded Pools, Associated Coastal ENT Physicians, Dean, Mean, Minton, & Zwemer, Bingo Madness, Dental Art of St. Lucie West, St. Lucie Battery & Tire, The Porch Factory, the law offices of Chapman & Plymale, Southeast Technologies Group, Southeast Sharpening and Crop Production Services.

The Party

Join a wild and crazy bunch of women who make their mark for women’s and children’s charities as the Royal Palms of St. Lucie host the 9th annual “Viva Las Vegas,” a night of gaming, partying, fun and frolic, from 7-11 p.m. on Nov. 15 at the Pelican Yacht Club in Fort Pierce.
